Maxine Chambers was an educator and instructional supervisor in the Caddo Parish School System in Shreveport, Louisiana. By 1950, she was married to Alonzo T. Chambers, and they had one daughter named Maude.
She earned a master’s degree from Tuskegee University and later received the Shreveport Times “Educator of the Year” award in 1965. Chambers taught in DeSoto Parish schools, Grambling College, and served for years as a supervisor of instruction in Caddo Parish.
She was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, with documented attendance at national Boule meetings in the mid-1950s and frequent mentions in Shreveport newspaper columns highlighting local AKA activities. She became a charter member of Delta Lambda Omega in 1947.
Maxine died in August 1971 after an extended illness. Her funeral was held at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Shreveport. She was survived by her husband, daughter, siblings, and extended family.
