Hattie Luce Fletcher was a college-educated Mississippi native who became a teacher, journalist, and civic leader. She initiated into the Nu Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and became a charter member of Delta Lambda Omega in 1947. After early years in Yazoo City and Winston-Salem, she moved to Shreveport with her husband in 1946 to support the launch of the Carver Branch YMCA. For more than 15 years, she taught in Caddo Parish schools and wrote the New Pittsburgh Courier’s “Around Shreveport” column, documenting the lives, achievements, and community events of Black Shreveport. She died in 1961 after a prolonged illness, leaving a legacy of education, community service, and cultural preservation.
