Elizabeth Williams was an early leader in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, remembered as one of the five charter members of the Psi Chapter at the University of Pennsylvania in 1925. Her induction into the sorority came during a pivotal era in Black higher education, when opportunities for African American women at predominantly white institutions were rare and hard-won.
During her years at the University of Pennsylvania, Williams was active in sorority life, helping to establish Psi Chapter as a space for fellowship, academic excellence, and service. Chapter records list her among the members who laid the foundation for AKA’s presence on the Penn campus and in the wider Philadelphia community.
Following her graduation, she married and maintained ties with Alpha Kappa Alpha. Her legacy lives on through the continuing work of the Psi Chapter and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, which upholds the ideals she helped establish at Penn—scholarship, sisterhood, and service to all mankind.
