Charline Elizabeth Battle Cherot Whittaker (1913–2007) was a Harlem-born socialite, educator, and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The daughter of Samuel J. Battle, New York City’s first Black police lieutenant, she grew up in a family of civic prominence. A graduate of Hunter College, she pursued a career that combined education, social advocacy, and cultural work, including association with NBC set design and United Nations–related initiatives. Active in Harlem and broader New York City society from the 1930s through the 1960s, she appeared frequently in African American newspapers as a hostess and participant in charity, cultural, and civic organizations. She married Edward Thornton Cherot in 1934 and later Frank Whittaker in 1963. She died in New York in 2007 at age 94.
