Joseph J. Gross was a dedicated professional, community leader, and devoted family man whose career and service left an enduring mark on the communities he served. Born May 18, 1915, in Sioux City, Iowa, he attended the University of Iowa before beginning a long and distinguished career with the Boy Scouts of America. Over 29 years, Joseph worked in Dallas and Detroit, helping to shape programs that inspired and developed young leaders.
In 1969, Joseph joined Panax Corporation, where he served as Vice-President of Personnel until his retirement in 1979. Beyond his professional achievements, Joseph was active in civic life. He was a member and past president of the East Lansing Rotary Club, where he served as District Governor for District 636 (1982 and 1983). He also served on the Board of Regents at Northern Michigan University, the Advisory Board of Wharton Center, and the Board of Chief Okemos Council B.S.A. Additionally, he sat on the Board of Directors for Starr Commonwealth.
Joseph’s commitment to youth development, education, and civic service made him a respected leader and mentor. He passed away on March 11, 1985, at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, integrity, and community service.
